With the recent announcement from the Chancellor that Liverpool is awarded Freeport status, coupled with the delivery of 5 new cantilever rail-mounted gantry cranes (CRMG) arriving in Liverpool this week, there has never been a better time to ship into, or out of, Liverpool port.

Freeports are a specially designated economic zone where usual tax and customs rules do not apply. It is designed to encourage import, export and further commercial activity by benefitting from generous tax relief and customs benefits. For example, when cargo is imported to a Freeport it will benefit from simplified customs checks and without paying tariffs.

In addition, Peel Ports, the owner of Port of Liverpool is investing £140m in 22 new cranes for its deep water terminal, with 5 arriving this week. Once completed this means Liverpool will be capable of handling the largest container ships in the world, whilst supporting UK hauliers, creating more jobs, and boosting supply chain facilities in the region.
